Poster Design, Illustration

Self-Initiated
Year: 2016

I first found Aaron Draplin the summer of 2016 when I was researching for my senior thesis. Like most I quickly resonated with his words of using design for good and his charisma. I purchased and read his book in 2 days, maybe the fastest I've ever read. When the semester started I learned that Draplin was coming to my school! I was so excited and nervous as I've never actually met someone I've looked up to with such admiration. It didn't dawn on me until the night before that I needed to create a poster for the event.

My inspiration was old school boxing posters facing off Aaron's "Safety Orange" against the "Falcon Orange" I was using working for the schools in-house design department. 5 A.M. the next morning I printed my poster large format at Fed Ex, and got to meet the man himself. He spent the day with my class allowing us to pick his brain. Sometimes it pays off to meet your heroes. That poster is now signed and hangs over my desk. It's a reminder of the type of energy and charisma I want to put into my life's work.
